The terms high and low in relationship to pitch are arbitrary. How cool is that?
In the west we call the notes which have a slower rate of vibration Low, and those with a faster rate High.
Which actually seems pretty obvious. I could have rewritten the sentence as
In the west we call the notes which have a lower rate of vibration Low, and those with a higher rate High.
But back in the day the Greeks talked about pitch the other way around.
Cool huh!
